Scotland’s cities are home to world-class museums, great shopping and cool cafes and bars. There are four cities for English language students to choose from: Glasgow (Scotland’s largest city), Edinburgh (Scotland’s capital) or Perth or Dundee, which are smaller in size.

Discover Scottish festivals and traditions

Scotland offers visitors unique local experiences: from Scottish folk music and dancing to whisky tasting. Plus, there are traditional celebrations like Burns Night and Hogmanay (Scottish new year).

The Edinburgh Festival in August is the world’s biggest arts festival, a whole month of comedy, theatre, music and dance.

Visit historic buildings and iconic filming locations

Scotland has countless beautiful castles that are steeped in history and often used as filming locations.

Doune Castle is a prime example: it was Castle Leoch in Outlander, Winterfell in Game of Thrones and also features in Monty Python’s Holy Grail.

Harry Potter fans can take a steam train ride on the West Highland Line, which took Harry to Hogwarts.

High-quality courses accredited by the British Council

You can find British Council accredited English language centre across the UK, and 15 of them are in Scotland!

There are year-round language schools in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Perth. Other locations open in the summer for young learner residential courses.
